About Raymond Mares
Photography is my Soul's Creative Expression
First, let me say that I am tremendously privileged to be able to use a camera, lens, and light to tell other people's stories. Photography has afforded me the opportunity to lead a truly fulfilling and challenging lifestyle where worlds of artistic expression and entrepreneurship crash head-on into one another.
In this tremendously competitive photographic environment where cameras are as ubiquitous as the cell phones that house them, it's both rare and difficult for photographers to be able to wear both hats successfully. I'm thankful that I have always had strong interests in both, and in good measure because of that we are now approaching our 11th year of being a "For-Profit" business! I'm constantly striving to grow in my profession and the most important means in doing so is by delivering great results and exceeding my client's expectations.
My most important motivator to be the best photographer, husband, father, and entrepreneur I can be is my faith. I have been blessed with my heart's desire to have a photography business of my own, an amazingly dedicated wife, healthy and strong willed children, and a lifestyle that affords me ample time to enjoy all of the above.
My photographic philosophy is that less is more - I relish shooting from a photo-journalistic approach where I can be the vigilant observer ready to capture precious memories that will last beyond our lifetime. It's better to leave clunky backdrops in the studio and photograph people in natural indoor and outdoor environments, using a careful combination of natural and artificial light to make images pop. Vibrant colors and rich black & whites are integral characteristics of both my shooting and editing style. A current that runs strong across my portfolio is my natural ability to blend in and capture people as their smiling and laughing. This one attribute is what I believe separates our work from any competitors we might have. Technical skills are being perfected along my photographic journey but one of the most important lessons that I have learned in the last 11 years is that photography is much more about trust and personal relationships than f/stops and shutter speeds.
Win a person's heart and mind and ultimately you'll have a much easier time winning their eye.
Thank you for reading this brief bio. I will be creating a more in depth profile via a blog entry soon that will outline some of the more concrete actions that occurred that lead me down the path of both photography and entrepreneurial pursuits.
